From pantsuits to dupatta: Five ways to reuse your mom`s sari

FT NEWS

Does your mother have a wardrobe full of old saris that she just does not use anymore? Then, you can reinvent them and make them fashionable again! Whether it's an old trend or a torn sari, there's a lot you can do with old saris. Learn five ways you can reuse your mom's old saris:

Get a dress stitched out of the sari

The easiest way to revamp a six-yard drape is to get a beautiful dress or an anarkali like one worn by Vidya Balan. If your sari has some fabric left you could also fashion a crop top and or a trendy pair of shorts out of it.

Turn it into a dupatta

A unique way to refurbish a sari would be to hem the ends and turn the sari into a dupatta. Take a cue from Deepika Padukone's dupatta and choose a Benarsi or brocade sari for a heavy dupattas.

Make a lehenga out of it

If you have some chic brocade saris lying around, why not turn them into a lehenga? Like Alia Bhatt, you can opt for a boho-chic look. You can also style it with can-can skirt for more volume.

Get a jazzy jacket made

A sari into a jacket? Hell yes! If you have a silk sari lying around you can easily recreate Karisma Kapoor’s long jacket look. You can try different lengths as per your preference.

Suit it up

The only way to take your mom’s sari to the next level is to turn it into a pantsuit. Take a look at Sonam Kapoor for some inspiration! Use any of your mom’s silk or brocade drape to get a stylish jacket and cropped pants stitched and transform your desi sari to a modern pantsuit.
